Well, 200 feet downhill is about a 220-yard shot, depending on the trajectory. But also, it’s at a high elevation, so probably a 5 iron

Likely a 4 iron, maybe a 5. I’m assuming it’s a decent elevation in New Mexico, and it looks pretty downhill

6 iron… I think
Especially with that elevation. 6 iron usually goes 180-195

Plays like 200 yards? That looks pretty inviting, and going long looks bad. Probably hitting a 7 iron, to be honest, and I can’t believe I’m saying that

Angel Fire! Hole 6* Such a fun front 9. Narrow fairways. Hole 3 and 18 always get me. Beautiful mountain course.
Played there recently, and it seems like everyone left town and finished 18 in 3 hours.
Playing at 8600 ft elevation makes me feel great.
If you’re still in New Mexico, check out Black Mesa

We thought about playing Black Mesa, but after the long drive here, we didn’t feel like driving another 2-3 hours. Playing AF again tomorrow and may head to Taos on Wednesday. Hole 3 kicked our butts. I think we shot a cumulative 30 on that hole. 18 was one of my best holes; I finally connected with my driver and was on in 3

If you can, Black Mesa is totally worth the extra hour or so over Taos. It’s such a unique course. I kept saying wow, but in a fun way… and I think it’s cheaper.
Taos really punishes you if you miss the fairway. Definitely slower greens and shorter than Angel Fire, I think? A few drivable par 4s (from the whites).
Hole 3 is brutal in Angel Fire. If you stay right, then that elevated green. But if you go left, you hit the creek. Is that the hardest hole? On 18, I always get killed by the green and those deep bunkers.
The uphill hole, I think it’s 5? Our group all had great drives and felt amazing, and then almost all got double par. The green goes insane if you go long

I always end up in the yard of the houses on the right on that uphill hole. Or I can never find my ball.
I love this course and the town

Depends on what I’m not seeing here. Water, shrubs? Probably a smooth 5 wood. If the coast is clear, I’m hammering a 4 iron
No water. Some long grass red stakes to the left, pretty open short right

Driver. Then with a breakfast ball either 3 wood or 5 wood
