That’s so awesome. I wish Saskatoon would do something similar with its courses. They closed two weeks ago and I am in withdrawal.

GOLFED a couple of rounds there last December during a warm spell. But the ground was pretty much frozen and no way to get a full size tee in the ground. Had to nudge in a short tee a mm or 2 and that worked ok. An okay place for the middle of winter on a warm day.

Does the course ever ask you to wear spikeless shoes in the winter?

If there’s actual frost and/or ice out on the course making the grass fragile enough to be damaged that easily you wouldn’t be allowed to play regardless of what kind of shoes you wear.

It’s the same reasoning behind standard frost delays. If the grass is crunchy, nobody plays until it thaws; if the grass isn’t crunchy, then it’s fine as long as you’re not intentionally tearing out chunks with your spikes (since it’ll be a longer recovery time in winter, but it’s still a dick move even in summer).

@Corey
Yeah, any intentional damage is a dick move.

More curious as I am in Canada and some courses advertise allowing winter golf!

I’ve never played in Canada, but played for 20+ years in Colorado with winters that were plenty cold with lots of snow all the same.

So long as conditions allow you to play at all without damaging the turf, then spikes vs spikeless won’t make a difference really.

No. These courses that specifically open off-season use a different, hardier grass I have noticed that handles low temperatures better. It then is also not the best choice for fairways overall.

I was thinking either Fox or McCall, but that’s 100% hardhat alley.

I love fall golf.

How many holes does she have?

Damn.

Giggity.

Awesome, last year around this time I played 18 and walked the fall rate of $18 and played two balls, had the course to myself. If the snow stays away, I’ll figure out what courses in my area are actually open and play them.
